Posted @withregram • @susannabarkataki Before yo Posted @withregram • @susannabarkataki Before you make that International Yoga Day Post… reflect with about what we are celebrating historically and currently.

International Yoga Day was formed 8 years ago as part of the Modi Government’s “Hindu Soft Power” aim to reclaim power as a relatively young government post colonization and neocolonialism.

However, it’s been exclusive. forcing folks from other religions or excluding other religions or who don’t want to do yoga seems counter to the spirit of yoga itself.

Today, I offer you two portals for inquiry: Education and Inviting Diversity and Connection.

EDUCATION
This practice of yoga that so many turn to for peace and to de-stress has deep and varied roots. This day, and onwards, is a wonderful time to go deeper into exploring the roots and history of yoga. Explore where yoga came from, its varied influences and practices, and it's current geopolitical context.

This moment is an invitation to self-educate!
Learn about IYD:
- Where did it come from?
- Does it uphold your idea of what yoga stands for?
- Does it leave anyone out?

INVITING DIVERSITY & CONNECTION
With talk of oneness there is a spiritual trapping that threatens to cover up the material realities of this hurt world we live in: If yoga comes from a word meaning “union”- we are called to look deep to understand where are we accidentally watering seeds planted long ago that cover up the harm experienced by those on the margins and attempts to package our experiences and needs as the same.

This moment is an invitation to abandon bypass & seek connection built on difference!
- How can yoga connect us rather than divide?
- How can we make yoga more inclusive?
-Who may be left out in your yoga spaces?
-how can we invite diversity into our practice and our community?
- Honor the South Asian roots of yoga?

Exploring deeply with transparency and honesty.
I know together we are powerful.

Our inquiry, questioning and practice can create cultural shifts as we explore and take aligned action on yoga’s aim of unity personally, culturally and for all life.

Yoga is here for us every day - can we be here for yoga?
Posted @withregram • @susannabarkataki Courageou Posted @withregram • @susannabarkataki Courageous Convo starter - Do you celebrate International Yoga Day? Why or why not?

Next week is International Yoga Day and lot of people were surprised to hear about its roots. Here are some things to be aware of and think about regarding it's founding and impact.

There are many who have experienced exclusion because of it.

Make sure to share with your fellow yoga practitioners so we can spread the truth about this seemingly harmless day!

Keep learning, inquiring digging… and let us know what you learn here! And your answers around celebrating or not👇🏽❤️

Grateful for community. Elaine @the.flower.lady.el Grateful for community. Elaine @the.flower.lady.elaine embodies community. Friendly and supportive to new parents and children, nurse and protector of all animals, encouraging to those who need a lift. We are so very grateful to Elaine, for not just letting us put our pavement board outside her flower shop but for bringing it in and out each day. How incredibly kind! Thank you very much Elaine @the.flower.lady.elaine for helping us out during these difficult times… #hernehillflowers #hernehillflowershop #hernehillflowerdeliveries #theflowerlady #hernehill #yogapointbrixton #yogapointbrixtononline #supportivecommunity #gratefulforcommunity

Thank you @MayorofLondon for fully backing the bill in memory of Ella. Everyone has a right to breathe Clean Air & not have ones life cut short due to dirty air where they live. Ella would be here if it wasn’t the illegal levels of air pollution she breathed throughout her life. https://twitter.com/ZackPolanski/status/1539960810650292224
