ABOUT IYENGAR YOGA
Developed by B.K.S. Iyengar in India, this is a system of yoga which is practised at a slow pace. Time is spent in each asana (pose) while it is explored and a precise alignment of the body is focussed on. Supports eg, bolsters, blocks, chairs etc. are often used, to assist students to access the posture and to work in it without injuring themselves.
Iyengar teachers have to complete a rigorous two year mentorship to become introductory teachers. In order to be accepted on to the teacher training programme students need to have been attending Iyengar yoga classes for a minimum of 3 years, to be competent in the basic asanas and have a good understanding of the yoga system.
